Dan Murry. The guy had short, neat hair. His thin lips always pressed tight. Those sharp, sparky eyes said more

than he himself ever did.

He'd had this wild, cocky energy-so different from Sebastian’s cool chill-that he'd stuck in Stephanie's head.

Stephanie had met him three times. The fourth was just word he was gone, a hit that smashed Sofia’s heart to

pieces.

Sebastian shrugged, staring at the cup in his hands. “Maybe. Maybe not.”

Stephanie’s voice got quieter. “Finger crossed.”

She looked out the window, feeling for Sofia and everything she’d put into that guy.

Sebastian played with her slightly crossed fingers. “Cold?” he asked, a bit of concern slipping in.

“Nah, I'm good,” she said, shaking her head. The fireplace was doing its thing.

Still, he snagged a fuzzy blanket from nearby and draped it over her shoulders, his touch light.

He knew she hated heavy layers in winter-liked her arms free-so her closet was packed with light, comfy stuff

like this.

“I'm really not cold,” she muttered, glancing at the blanket.

“Just go with it,” he teased, his voice warm and easy.

Stephanie rolled her eyes but gave in, pulling it on for real.

Dinner thit, and with the snow stacking up outside-turning everything into a white mess. Stephanie was in

her happy place. She loved cooking up a storm on days like this.

The soup on the table was bubbling, steam rising from the broth. No spice, yeah, but Stephanie dug in anyway, a

on her face.

Sebastian kept an eye on her. She looked up, pushing smeat his way. “Hey, eat something too.”

He raised an eyebrow but took it. “What's with you and all this spicy soupy stuff?”

He wasn’t really into anything too brothy.

She smiled, scooping up sof the hot broth and sipping it. “Warmsup, obviously.”

“Cold?” he asked, giving her a quick sideways look, voice steady.

“Nah, not really. But with all that snow out there?” She nodded at the window, where big flakes were smacking

the glass. “This just feels right.”

Sebastian let out a little laugh, one corner of his mouth lifting. “Oh, so now you're all about the cozy vibes?”

‘She’s so extra about a bowl of soup,” he thought, smirking to himself.

Stephanie sat up straight and suddenly asked, “Macro and Lorenzo... Haven't seen them for a while.”

The meal would be more interesting if they were here.

“Macro’s off looking for Luca,” Sebastian said, tossing another piece of meat into the pot. “No idea about

Lorenzo”

Stephanie swallowed a bite of carrot, then added, “You really freaked Macro out today, you know.”

She'd been shaken up too-her heart was still half-racing.

Tyler had just kicked up s here and ended up in the hospital. Now nobody wanted to mess with the

mess.

Sebastian shrugged, grabbing his spoon. “Freaked out for what? All | did was tell Elliot to beat them out of Long

Harbor.”

Stephanie blinked, her words caught in her throat.

Beat them out of Long Harbor? Over a girl?

Stephanie felt that he dropped that way too casually,

Her mouth twitched. “Uh, wait-that’s not okay, right? What's Elliot gonna do to Luca?”

She frowned at him, pushing harder. “I'm serious. She's just a girl-you can’t go too rough on her.”

Sebastian raised a brow, a teasing tone sneaking in. “Luca’s a girl? First I'm hearing of it.”

Stephanie froze.

Okay, fair-Luca’s whole vibe had been tomboy city forever.

Sometimes, standing next to Sofia by the window, Stephanie would think they looked good together.

“Still,” she muttered, lowering her voice, “tell Elliot to chill. She might not seem like it, but she’s a girl deep

down.”

Sebastian took a sip from his cup, straight-faced. “Nosebleed and a black eye, tops.”

Stephanie’s sighed, “That's it?” Relief hit her, and she relaxed a little.

“Wait-no, hang on.” She scrunched her face, something clicking.

Luca’s dark skin popped into her head, and she threw a quick, nervous glance at Sebastian.

“Uh... Luca’s pretty tan, right? That might not even show up,” she mumbled, half to herself.

In her mind, Luca was a total sun junkie.

Summers on the beach, winters parked on the balcony-she’d soak up the sun like it was her job. Without it, she'd

probably say she'd rot.

All that toutside left her with a deep tan-not super dark, but enough that bruises might not stand out like

they would on lighter skin.

Right then, Elliot pushed the door open, his voice low and gruff. “Mr. Giovanni.”

“How'd it go?” Sebastian asked, barely moving his lips, his eyes sliding over to him.

Elliot stood in the doorway, brushing snow off his shoulders. “All of Miss Sofia’s crew are back and accounted for.

Miss Luca Vitale wasn't with them.”

Sebastian raised a brow, glancing at Elliot.

“They said she bailed on them right after the plane touched down,” Elliot said, his voice flat, like he was just

reading off a grocery list.

Macro stumbled in from the storm right then, snow stuck to his coat, catching the last bit of that. His chest

tightened up,

and he stopped dead in his tracks.

“Wait-what?” he asked, “She ditched Sofia’s people? What the hell was she doing?”

Macro’s brain felt like it was frying, a total wreck.

He thought Luca was acting like a wild horse that'd just busted loose, probably because of sbad vibe she

picked up growing up-something that stuck with her for way too long.

But when he tried to pin down what it was, something hit him, and he just dropped it.
