Chapter 313 Mommy, I Want a Daddy "Hasn't Lucy's fever gone down yet?" "Yeah, it has, but she's still coughing." Sam sighed. "I wish I could take on Lucy's illness for her." His words melted Penelope's heart.

"Don't say that," she replied, "You need to stay healthy too!" "Alright! I'll stay fit and protect you both!" "Deal!" They high-fived with a smile.

After chatting with Sam, Penelope headed to Lucy's room.

Sam trailed behind her.

"Ruby, is Lucy feeling any better?" "She took her medicine, but she's still coughing now and then," Ruby said, worried. "Lucy's always been frail." Penelope frowned. "If she's not better by tomorrow, I'll take her to the hospital." "Okay. But you look exhausted." Penelope shook her head. "As long as Lucy gets better, it's worth it. You've been working hard too, Ruby." Ruby sighed. "I'm just so worried about her fever." It was common for Lucy to get sick,, but as she got older, her illnesses becmore severe.

What used to be minor ailments that cleared up in a few days now took at least a week for Lucy to recover from. "Take care of yourself," Ruby said, "You can't afford to get sick." "I'm fine." Sam stood quietly nearby.

+3 Ruby stayed with Lucy until she fell asleep. Though Penelope was exhausted, she didn't forget to check on Sam. She loved both kids equally and never showed favoritism.

"Sam, still up?" she asked as she walked into the kids' room. "It's late. How about I read you a story, and then you go to sleep, okay?" "Okay." Penelope grabbed a storybook and sat by the bed, reading softly.

Sam watched her the whole time.

"And so, the prince and princess lived happily ever after," Penelope closed the book. "Alright, Sam, tfor bed." "Mommy." "Yes?" "Where's your prince?" Sam asked, "You're a beautiful and kind princess; you should have a prince by your side." Penelope chuckled. "I'm not a princess anymore; I have two kids now." "In my heart, you'll always be a princess!" "Thank you." Penelope tucked him in. "Now go to sleep." But Sam kept looking at her, like he had something on his mind.

After a few seconds, he finally spoke, "Mommy, I want a dad." Penelope's smile faltered.

She forced another smile. "Why? Am I not doing a good enough job?" She always knew Sam and Lucy missed having a dad.

But there was nothing she could do about it. Penelope could only give them double the motherly love.

She hoped to make up for the fatherly love they were missing.

But it was always two different kinds of love.

Penelope had worked hard to give them a normal life, to make sure they didn't feel inferior for not having a dad. She raised them to be confident and cheerful.

But now, Sam said he wanted a dad.

Penelope felt a bit sad.

"Mommy, it's not that you're not doing well enough," Sam said, "In fact, you're doing too well." "Too well?" Penelope was puzzled.

"Yeah. You're working too hard for Lucy and me. Mommy, I wish we had a dad to help share the load, so you wouldn't have to do it all alone." Penelope was taken aback. Sam wanted a dad because he thought she was too tired! She didn't know whether to feel happy or sad.

Yes, she was exhausted.

She had to work and take care of the family. It was tiring, but she felt it was worth it.

Every tshe saw Sam and Lucy, she felt recharged and motivated! Penelope answered softly, "You have to believe that I can balance work and life!" "No, I think you're working too hard. Mommy, when I grow up and have money, I won't let you work anymore. You can dress up beautifully every day!" She smiled. "Alright, I'll wait for that day. Now go to sleep. Goodnight." "Goodnight, Mommy." After turning off the light, Penelope left and returned to her bedroom.

Only when she was alone did she allow herself to show her exhaustion and helplessness.

Sam and Lucy had never seen their dad, and they understood he would never cto see them.

The siblings had never mentioned wanting a dad or looking for their dad in front of her.

They had never inquired about their father's identity, appearance, residence, or reasons for his absence.

Because they were very sensible.

Ruby must have also reminded them privately.

Tonight, Sam brought it up.

Penelope thought that no matter how much love she gave, it was only the motherly part.

And they were always missing fatherly love.

She would never marry another man.

For four years, Penelope had never looked at Kelvin's photos or searched for any news about him. Even though he was the father of her children.

Lying in bed, her thoughts were chaotic, and Penelope fell asleep unknowingly.

She had a dream.

She dreamed that when she went to the restaurant this afternoon, she walked straight into the private room.

Then, Ryan saw her immediately! He recognized her! "Mrs. Davis!" "No, I'm not!" "It's you. You are Mrs. Davis!" Ryan pointed at her. "You are still alive!" Penelope kept shaking her head. "No, you have the wrong person!" She turned to run, but Ryan chased after her, calling Ben to help. "Stop her!" Ben was confused. "Molly, what's going on?" "Letgo, Mr. Wright, please!" Ryan's voice was sharp. "Ben, how dare you let Mrs. Davis work for you! I'm going to tell Mr. Davis!" Penelope, being just one woman, couldn't escape Ryan and Ben's blockade.

She struggled desperately, crying out in despair, "No, I'm not MrsCDavis, let I go! I don't want to go back to LA! I won't see Kelvin!" But Ryan held her tightly, his grip leaving red marks.

Then, the scene changed.

Kelvin, in a suit with his shirt collar half open, walked towards her step by step.

"Penelope, you lied to me!" "You are alive!" "Where are our kids?"
