"I bought it with Selene yesterday," I added.

Nora's horrified expression showed her curiosity.

On the way to my place, I told Nora the whole story. She nodded vigorously, anger evident on her face. “It's right not to marry him. Logan is a whole other level of scumbag who wants to have it all." "Scumbags are scumbags. There's no 'levels' to it," I replied with a small smile.

Nora glanced at me. "Elaine, you don't have to force a smile if you're sad." "I'm not sad, really," I said, focusing on the road. "Maybe my feelings for him were like his for me. We're so familiar with each other that there's just no spark anymore." That was how I truly felt. But later, I realized that those supposedly dull, familiar feelings were like aged wine-the aftereffects were much stronger than I'd thought.

That was how it was for me, and even more so for Logan.

Nora didn't know about this house-it had belonged to my parents. We met after I moved into the Mercer estate and started school.

"This house is nice, though it's a bit far and old,” Nora said, always honest with me.

"Yes. This is where my parents and I lived together: I don't want to change #3 09:22 8.62% < Chapter 25 it," I said, placing the bedding on the couch. Then, I took out a new kettle, washed it, and boiled water.

Nora wandered around, eventually leaning against the door frand watching me. "It's nice-old but cozy. I can tell your family was very happy here." "Yes." If it weren't for that car accident... Even now, it felt like a nightmare.

My parents had droppedoff at school in the morning, saying they were going to discuss a contract. My dad even promised that if the deal went through, he'd buildan amusement park. But they never cback.

"Elaine, Elaine,” Nora called, snappingout of my thoughts. "Why are you so quiet?" I looked up at her. “What should I say?" Nora studiedcarefully. "Are you okay?" “I'm fine. I just miss my parents." My throat tightened as sorrow welled up inside me.

I had known Logan would be my future boyfriend after moving into the Mercer estate. But it wasn't until three years ago that our relationship becofficial.

That was on my parents' death anniversary. I had been crying at their gra ves when Logar hugged When saying I still had him. He even promised, in front of their mem tombstones, that he'd loveon their behalf.

At the time, I was naive. I really thought I had found someone could e rely on, someone like my parents. 0922
