Chapter 526 See His Mother As The Enemy

"Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman." Jermaine was taken aback for a moment before standing up and greeting them with a

smile. "What a coincidence, when did you guys get here? Why didn't you letknow?"

Only then did Lenora notice Jasmine. The latter was elegantly dressed and standing g by Bertram's side.

While Jermaine was speaking, she discreetly observed Bertram.

Although he was already in his fifties, he looked remarkably young for his age. His physique was well-

proportioned, while his features were pleasing to the eye. He looked no older than a handsman in his

forties. It was easy to imagine how much more dashing he must have been in his youth.

No wonder Tamara can't forget him. Moreover, Zachary and Ezekiel have inherited his good looks.

Lenora noticed that while he was speaking to Jermaine, he subtly glanced in Zachary's direction.

Zachary leaned against the back of the chair, his face devoid of expression. However, a flicker of impatience

flashed deep within his eyes.

With a warm smile on his face, Bertram replied, "I cover here to take care of sbusiness and decided to

stay a few days for leisure. You seemed busy with work, so | didn't inform you."

"Mrs. Hoffman seems to be getting younger and younger; | almost didn't recognize her."

"Stop trying to make her happy."

After a brief catch-up, Jermaine introduced everyone, "Bella, Lenora, meet Ezekiel's father, Mr. Hoffman, and his

wife, Mrs. Hoffman. Mr. Hoffman, this is Bella, my girlfriend, and this is Lenora, our friend, along with her

husband." Pretending to not know anything, Lenora casually greeted Bertram and Jasmine together with Bella.

If her relationship with Jasmine was exposed, the superficial peace they had maintained would be hard to

maintain. It would only put Jermaine in a difficult position.

Thus, it was better for her to act as if she didn't know Jasmine.

Jasmine didn't want to reveal her relationship with Lenora to the public, so she implicitly accepted Lenora's

stance on the matter.

Upon hearing the name, Bertram gave her an extra glance. He then nodded toward the three of them. "Jermaine,

you're quite the lucky one," he remarked.

Jermaine chuckled, about to say something when Bertram abruptly changed the topic. He turned to Zachary, "I

didn't expect to see you in Fairlake, Mr. Fuller. What a coincidence."

Zachary looked at him and was hit by a sudden realization. "Mr. Hoffman, my apologies, | didn't recognize you

earlier. How rude of me."

Bertram: "No worries, after all, the encounter was a fleeting one."

Jermaine courteously said, "I didn't realize you're acquainted with Mr. Fuller, Mr. Hoffman. This is perfect, we

should all dine together. Mr. Hoffman, Mrs. Hoffman, please have a seat. This meal is on me." "Sounds good."

Bertram immediately led Jasmine to sit down.

The speed of it all left Jermaine momentarily taken aback, leaving him no choice but to call over the waiter to

bring two additional sets of tableware.

No one wanted to share a table with elders. Had he known earlier, he wouldn't have extended the courtesy.

Lenora inwardly cursed Jermaine for being a busybody, rolling her eyes in annoyance. She rued her bad luck, and

the reason was simple-Jasmine was sitting right next to her.

Across from her, Zachary wasn't faring much better, with Bertram sitting right beside him.

Both of them exchanged a glance, sharing a sense of mutual understanding about their respective predicament.

Curiously, Bertram seemed oblivious to everything around him, striking up a conversation with Zachary. "Mr.

Fuller, are you in Fairlake on a business trip?"

Zachary shook his head. "It's for pleasure."

"Staying here for a few days?"

"We'll be heading back tomorrow."

"I heard that recently, the Fuller Group..."

Zachary was rendered speechless.

When Bertram brought up matters of business, Jasmine also chimed in, praising Zachary for his

accomplishments at such a young age.

Occasionally, Jermaine would interrupt, picking up the menu to order a few more dishes and two bottles of wine.

Primarily, Lenora engaged Bella in conversation, sharing amusing anecdotes about what had transpired in their

respective lives after she returned to their homeland.

On the surface, it appeared as though the group at the table was engaged in lively conversation and laughter,

appearing harmonious.

Meanwhile, on the street outside the restaurant, under the shade of a tree, a car was parked. The tree's shadow

danced around, shrouding the vehicle within it, making it impossible to discern the situation inside the car.

Tamara was seated in the driver's

seat, peering intently through the car

window into the restaurant. Her

gaze was fixed on the customers by the floor-to-ceiling window. For a split second, her expression

contorted. Her hands were clenched tightly, the force so great that her fingertips dug into her palms, causing

blood to ooze out.

Bertram and Jasmine were facing Zachary and Lenora respectively.

The harmonious scene felt particularly jarring in Tamara's eyes.

Her beloved son was sitting Bertram and Jasmine, enjoying a drink together.

How can he do this to me? | should be the one taking Jasmine's place! It's one thing if he didn't stand up for me,

his mother, but now, he's sharing a meal and chatting with them as if nothing had happened? Why didn't he

confront Bertram? Why did he allow Jasmine to sit in front of him?

Tamara felt deeply betrayed.

This must be because of Lenora! At the rate this is going, he will soon see his own mother as the enemy!

Overwhelmed by anger, Tamara impulsively grabbed her phone and dialed a number.

As his phone began to ring, Bertram set down his wine glass and retrieved his phone from his pocket. Upon

seeing the number displayed on the screen, he promptly pressed the red button. Meanwhile, Jasmine asked,

"Why isn't he picking up?"

"It's just a nuisance call," Bertram said nonchalantly.

Inside the car, Tamara listened to the busy tone coming from her phone, her teeth gritted in frustration. She

glared at Bertram, unwilling to accept defeat, and dialed again. Bertram still ended the call.

When Tamara tried to call again, all she heard was the mechanical voice from the receiver. "Hello, the number

you've dialed is currently not in service, please try again later..." She was so furious that she almost threw her

phone out.

Meanwhile, Zachary lowered his gaze, a faint glint of irritation lurking in his eyes.

Just a moment ago, he had inadvertently caught a glimpse of the incoming call display on Bertram's phone. The

number was one he was very familiar with. What on earth is Tamara trying to do?

Just then, his cell phone rang.

Zachary glanced at his phone and saw that it was Tamara.

Suddenly, he realized that the latter was nearby and could see them.

Zachary subtly slipped his silenced phone back into his pocket. He casually scanned his surroundings, finally

fixing his gaze on a car parked by the street. The meal was tasteless and ended rather quickly.

With that, the group exited the restaurant, bidding each other farewell before parting ways.

Meanwhile, the car by the street remained parked under the shade of the trees, as if there was no one inside.

On their way back to the hotel,

Lenora was already exhausted, drowsiness.kicking in. However, Zachary noticed from the rear-view mirror that a

car was tailing them. The license plate was the sas the one from the car outside the restaurant.

Upon reaching the hotel lobby, Zachary had intended to carry Lenora upstairs. However, she was such a light

sleeper that she woke up at the slightest touch. Yawning, Lenora returned to the room. She headed to the

bathroom to freshen up, only to hear Zachary say, "You rest first. | need to step out for a bit."

With a nonchalant hum, Lenora assumed that the phone call during the meal earlier was work-related and

Zachary decided to attend to it.

Zachary soon cout of the hotel, immediately spotting the car parked by the roadside. He strode toward it.

A few steps away, the car door was opened from the inside, and Tamara stepped out.

He looked at the woman before him, his gaze a complex mix of frustration and helplessness. "What is it that you

want?"

"What do | want?" Tamara sneered, suddenly slapping Zachary across the face.

Amidst the sharp crack, her voice, ablaze with fury, echoed, "Are you even my son?"

He has driven me, his own mother, out of Zosteylor, barringfrom entry. Now, in an attempt to curry favor

with Lenora, he is treatinglike the enemy! If | had known it would cto this, | wouldn't have given birth to

him!
