“So, instead, he left me? His mate?” Nan asked, her eyes growing wide as she stared up at me. “How does that
make sense, Judy?
| was quiet for a moment, not really sure how to answer her
“I don’t know,” | admitted. “It’s all too much right now. I'm sorry you have to deal with this.”
She sighed and threw the pillow to the side.
“I just don’t want to think about it anymore,” she said, shaking her head as she wiped at her eyes. “Let's talk
about you instead.”
1 smiled.
“What about me?” | asked.
She rolled her eyes.
“Oh, please. I'm not stupid, Judy. You are living in his mansion. You already toldyou've been sleeping -
together, but | think there’s more to it. You have actual feelings for him and it’s obvious he has feelings
for you
too.”
“What are you talking about?” | asked, feeling heat creeping across my cheeks. “We are just having a bit of fun.
We both agreed it’s just a show. It's not that serious.”

| couldn’t help but laugh.
“I'm not a princess,” | said, swatting at her arm. “And Gavin has barely been here in the last few days.”
| couldn't keep the bitterness out of my tone as I spoke; the smile slowly faded from my lips.
“What do you mean?” Nan asked with a frown. “Is everything okay?”
| shrugged and nibbled on my lower lip.
“I don’t know,” | admitted. “One minute he can’t get enough ofand the next, he doesn’t want to spend any
twith me. He keeps canceling our plans whenever Irene cries for him.”
“Irene is causing problems again?” Nan asked, her brows raised.
| nodded and then I sighed.
“She’s his daughter, so | can’t fault him for choosing her. But it’s just constant. Every tshe’s in a bad mood
or has sniffles, he cancels our plans to tend to her. | haven't seen him in days and when | do see him while I'm
tutoring Matt, he blowsoff. Claiming he’s too busy to talk. | don’t even think he’s sleeping at the villa. Which
makeswonder where's been sleeping if not at the Vill and not-with me.”
| was rambling, but | couldnt help myself. | was so confused about what was happening that it was making the
words spill from my mouth.
“He’s Gavin Landry. He's probably just busy,” Nan suggested, a worried frown marring her lips. “I'm sure it’s.
hothing to worry too much about. Don’t stress over it.”
“I could say the sto you,” | teased. “You are worried about your mate, and I'm worried about a guy I'm
sleeping with. What happened to us?”

“Is this what growing up is?” Nan asked, her nose crinkling “Because | don't like it. Too many emotions.”
| laughed and wrapped an arm around her as she rested her head on my shoulder.
“I'm not a fan either,” | admitted. “But | don’t think what I’m doing is grown up. This is my own fault for thinking |
can separate my feelings.”
Nan sighed.
“I wish | could separate my wolf fromsometimes because it's her feelings that I'm conflicted over,” she
admitted.
| knew exactly how she felt; when Ethan leftfor Irene, wanted nothing to do with him. | wanted to walk away,
but my wolf was the one who keptgrounded and waiting for him to caround. She held onto the hope
that our mate would return, but I didn’t want him to return after what he did.
Our wolves only know one thing and that’s our mates belong to us and only us... they would never want another.
Focusing on Nan and Chester was a good distraction from my own problems.
“I should tell you something,” | told her, breaking the long stretch of silence.

Her face fell suddenly.
“Oh,” she breathed. “So, you're leaving?”
I nodded, nibbling on my lower lip..
“I leave next week,” | admitted.
She nodded, her shoulders sagging.
“I'm going to miss you. I'm not sure what I'll do without out,” she murmured. “But maybe staway would
do you sgood.”
That was when | had an idea.
“Yeah, it would,” | told her, then | turned to look at her. “And it would do you sgood too. Cwith me.”
