Chapter 27 Nancy suddenly snapped her eyes open, dodging the kiss from the man looming over her with a swift turn of her head. The kiss landed at the corner of her mouth instead.

Disgust filled Nancy's heart as she pushed at Cyrus' shoulders. "Don't touch me!" Cyrus looked at her with pitiful eyes. "Nancy, you're my wife. If I can't touch you, who can I touch? You even agreed to have a baby with me. How are we supposed to make that happen without touching?" Nancy's gaze was cold, devoid of warmth as she looked at Cyrus.

Usually, Cyrus would have picked up on Nancy's disapproval and distaste. But then, all he felt was an overwhelming heat, even a kind of wrongful desire stirring within him.

"Nancy, we've known each other for so long and have been married for a year. Just let me," Cyrus pleaded, his eyes red, "Don't be scared. I'll be gentle." Saying so, Cyrus lost control and lunged forward. But Nancy swiftly got off the bed, causing Cyrus to miss and fall flat.

"Nancy!" Cyrus looked up, angry, "You're my wife. What's wrong with givinga chance? I said I'd be gentle." Yet, Nancy stood towering over him, especially when she saw the dissatisfaction on Cyrus' face. Suddenly, she cracked a mocking smile.

"Because I've been taken advantage of before, I find this whole thing dirty. Don't you think I'm dirty?" Hearing Nancy's mocking words, Cyrus felt like a bucket of cold water dumped over him, instantly sobering him up and dampening his desire.

Seeing Nancy's cold and disgusted look, Cyrus felt a sudden panic. His tone was angry and probing as he asked, "Nancy, why would you say something like that? Has someone been filling your head with nonsense?" 'Those were your words, weren't they?' Nancy thought coldly but didn't let it show.

"No one's been talking nonsense to me. That's how I see myself. Cyrus, seeing how worked up you are, you think the same, don't you?" Cyrus felt even more panicked. "Nancy, do you seelike that? You know how much I care about you!" "Really?" Nancy cut him off coldly, "Well, you'd better not have thought that way because just that thought alone would be enough fornot to want you." Cyrus was speechless.

Nancy turned and went to lie on the couch. "I'm tired. I'm going to sleep." Frustrated, Cyrus clenched his jaws. "So, you're going to refuse me? I think you're using 'feeling dirty' as an excuse!" Nancy remained silent. "Whether it's an excuse or not doesn't matter. What matters is you promisedyou wouldn't forceas long as I say no." Cyrus got stuck. He had indeed said that.

"Fine, great! If it's no touch, it's no touch!" With that, Cyrus lay back on the bed, refusing to speak further to Nancy. Every the met up with Hayley, she seemed afraid he wouldn't touch her, even going as far as to wear enticing outfits to seduce him. Why couldn't Nancy be as docile as Hayley? The room fell silent. The night grew deeper.

Suddenly, Cyrus' phone chimed.

Annoyed by the interruption, Cyrus quickly grabbed the phone, checking the caller ID. He then sneakily glanced at Nancy, who was pretending to be asleep. He sighed in relief and answered the call in a hushed tone, "Who told you to call me?" Whatever the person on the other line said seemed to make Cyrus anxious. "Just stay there. I'll be right over."

After hanging up and quickly throwing on a jacket, Cyrus-cast al final look at Nancy, still pretending to sleep, before he left.

As soon as the door clicked shut, Nancy's eyes fluttered open. Staring at the ceiling, she let out a small atthe laugh. That was the husband who professed no one loved her more than he did.
