Chapter 7 Before Nancy could calm her racing thoughts, Cyrus let go of her and slightly bent over to pick up his phone.
But before his fingers could graze it, Nancy had grabbed Cyrus' arm.

She took the lead and said, "Cyrus, don't think a prank call can distract us from the real issue. How did you know I sold the 'Only You' and our wedding ring? Were you at the charity auction?" As Nancy's voice faded, the call on the phone was disconnected.
When listening to Nancy, Cyrus couldn't focus on who was calling her. His face showed slight discomfort and guilt.
"I missed our anniversary last night and got caught up with work today. I thought I'd buy you something to cheer you up." Nancy's heart tightened. Was he trying to cheer her up or Hayley? Cyrus looked hurt. "Nancy, are you that mad about my absence these past few days? Do you know how scared I was when I saw the 'Only You' and our wedding ring at the auction? I was terrified you didn't wantanymore." "Nancy, can't you understand where I'm coming from? It's not easy for your man out there." Hearing Cyrus' words, Nancy responded with sarcasm, "So, you're saying I'm making a fuss over nothing?" Cyrus seemed helpless. "Then why did you sell the wedding ring and Only You, not to mention other jewelry I gave you?" Nancy gave a bitter laugh and looked down. Cyrus always claimed he knew her better than anyone else, that she always had her reasons for everything she did and wasn't just being emotional. But then, he was accusing her of making a fuss. Indeed, men's sweet nothings were lies.
Looking up at Cyrus again, Nancy felt like she was looking at a stranger.
"Fine, considerunreasonable since that's what you seem to think. Why even talk toabout it? You know I hate being complained to." Seeing the mocking look in Nancy's eyes, Cyrus suddenly felt an inexplicable panic. "I'm not complaining. I'm upset you don't value our relationship." He quickly pulled out a small square box from his pocket. Inside were the priceless pink necklace 'Only You' and their eleven-carat wedding ring.
"Nancy, it's okay if you don't want the other jewelry. I can buy you new ones, but you can't sell 'Only You' and the wedding ring." "Nancy, you can punishanytI mess up, but please don't sell these. It would trample on my feelings for you!" "You know, I love you to madness in this lifetime. The thought of being apart from you, even for a moment, is unbearable." Cyrus reached for Nancy's hand with affection, forcefully sliding the wedding ring back onto her finger. 'Trampling on feelings? Selling Only You and the wedding ring means trampling on feelings, but what about his fling in the car? What about his buying Hayley a mansion and an amusement park? Now he's playing the loving husband?' Nancy pulled her hand away, sitting on the bed exhausted, "I'm tired. I need to rest. Please, leave." Cyrus quickly sat down beside her, his large frseeming to overshadow her. The familiar scent of Nancy enveloped him, making his heart race.

Nancy pushed him away, disgusted by the sweet, cloying perfthat wasn't hers clinging to him. "Cyrus, did you put on perfume? It stinks!"
Cyrus paused and said calmly, "It must have been from when I bought Only You. I might got it from ht have accidentally the staff. I'll go take a shower." After saying that, he stood up and headed to the bathroom, closing the door behind him with a thud.
Left alone, Nancy couldn't help but scoff. He said he accidentally got it from the staff huh? Cyrus sure had a En: way with excuses. The phone vibrated again.
Interrupted, Nancy glanced toward the bathroom, heard the shower sound, and quickly answered the call, "Hello?"
