Chapter 8 "Ms. Gonzalez, it shows you're married. Does your husband know you're leaving?" "Yeah, we're on the brink of divorce," Nancy whispered hurriedly, her voice barely above a murmur. The clerk paused, "The process to terminate your status has started. You'll need to cin a week to submit your application. Will that work for you?" Without hesitation, Nancy firmly replied, "Yes, I'll be there." Not just in a week. Nancy would make tanytif it meant getting away from Cyrus.

With a nod, the clerk ended the call.

The vast silence of the house enveloped her once more, broken only by the sound of water in the bathroom. Nancy's expression was hard to read, a mix of emotions she couldn't quite name. Just a little longer, and she'd be free from Cyrus.

Her phone pinged, snapping her out of her thoughts. It was a message from Hayley.

[Hey, got a second to like my latest post?] A gut feeling told Nancy to check. And sure enough, there it was.

Hayley had posted a collage of photos showcasing the jewelry Cyrus had gifted her. Right at the center was a picture of her snuggled up against a man radiating joy. Even though the man's face was out of frame, the clothes he wore left no doubt. It was Cyrus.

Hayley's caption read, [When the wrong jewels find their rightful owner. Thanks for the gifts, love. It feels great to be treated like a princess.] Nancy stared at the post until her eyes stung. So, Cyrus had taken Hayley to the auction house, where he'd never thought to take Nancy since their wedding.

Seeing them so in love stung more than Nancy cared to admit. Yet, she quietly liked the post. Nancy didn't cut Hayley off. She wanted to see how far this farce would go. Good. She would leave Cyrus and let him have his "tragic love story" with Hayley.

The bathroom door swung open, and Cyrus emerged, a cloud of steam in his wake. He looked at Nancy, still absorbed in her phone.

"What's got you looking so down? If someone's bothering my Nancy, I'll handle them." When she saw Cyrus approach, Nancy's heart skipped a beat, but she masked her feelings well. "It's nothing," she said, her tone indifferent.

Cyrus looked at the dark phone screen and then back at Nancy, trying to gauge her expression. "What's wrong? Did something upset you?" "Nothing. Just cacross a silly survey asking if true love in marriage exists," Nancy said, her voice dry, not taking her eyes off him.

Unfazed, Cyrus smiled tenderly and said, "Of course, it exists. Like us." He held her gaze, focusing on her lips, a rush of desire coursing through him.

"Nancy, I love you. Do you think I'd look elsewhere?" Nancy snorted inside, 'But aren't you with Hayley now?' Nancy looked at Cyrus, her heart cold and her disdain undisguised. How could he hurt her and act so affectionately?

Unaware of her turmoil, Cyrus leaned in. His thoughts were solely on m kissing her "Givea chance to En make it right, please."

As he moved to kiss her, Nancy's heart raced, but she swiftly turned her head away, pushing him back. "Cyrus, I'm not interested!" She refused to be kissed by lips that had touched Hayley's.

Pain flickered in Cyrus' eyes, but his grip grew firmer. "Nancy, denibblen scared. won't push too far. All I'm asking for is a kiss."
